What to Avoid Talking About in Order to Get That Second Date

Published by laurenr at 5:43 pm under Communication, Habits to Avoid Edit This

Avoid talking about yourself…constantly…for the entire night. This may not come sound like much of a surprise, but many people love to talk about themselves. After awhile of someone constantly talking about themselves, the other person could go blank and start thinking about what they could be doing next weekend instead of taking you out. Give the other person a chance to talk about themselves. Ask them questions and let them actually finish what they’re saying instead of you diving into a story about what you did and what you love to do. Don’t be cold in your answers or answer in one word phrases, but if they ask you a question, answer it but keep it somewhat brief.

Stop complaining about your ex, the date you had a few weeks ago or how you always seem to meet losers. Be positive and be happy and it will reflect in the date. Negativity will also reflect in the date so make sure to have zero of it present. Here’s something to take with you on your date- not every person is the same and not every person will break your heart. Treat each person individually.

Avoid talking about your bad habits. Sure you may leave your underwear all over the floor in your bedroom and you drink out of the milk carton, but your date doesn’t need to know that about you. Of course you’re not perfect but there is a difference between flaws and bad habits. Flaws can be endearing. An example of a flaw is how you like the opposite baseball team that they do or that you have no idea how to pick out a good restaurant. Leave the bad habits for them to learn later on down the road.

Your date doesn’t need to know how many people you’ve been intimate with in your past. It’s your first date; topics should be kept to light and airy not emotionally draining or possibly embarrassing. Leave the talk about ex’s and previous partners for at least a few dates in.
